LABUAN: New Year is always a new hope and new journey to everyone, but not for a family in Kg Sg Labu, here, as their house was gutted by fire, half an hour before the countdown.
The husband and wife, in their 50's, managed to escape unhurt in the incident, leaving behind their house, Proton Iswara car and scrambler bike engulfed in fire.
"The couple was awoken by the heat of the fire while sleeping. None of their three children were at home," Labuan Fire and Rescue Department director Zainal Madasin told Bernama.
The firemen received a distress call at 11.26pm and immediately despatched a rescue team from Layangan Fire Station to the scene.
"The fire had spread fast when our personnel arrived at the scene. As of now, it is still not known what started the blaze," he said.
Another incident occurred around 5am today involving a woman who lost control of her vehicle and crashed near Taman Lazenda Villa 13.
A passer-by rescued the woman who was strapped in her Ford SUV which was engulfed in flames. — Bernama
