GEORGE TOWN: Penang Wanita Umno has pledged to assist RTM stringer cameraman Mohamad Amirul Amin Mohd Amir to be absorbed as a full time staff at the national television agency.
Its chief, Senator Datuk Norliza Abd Rahim said Mohamad Amirul should be given full time employment, especially after the ordeal he has gone through.
"I think we should look at this situation seriously, maybe relevant authorities such as the Communication and Multimedia Ministry can help him to get a full time job with RTM.
"Or maybe we can think of a method to help him and other stringers to be able to get fair and appropriate treatment should they face any accidents while performing their duties", she said after visiting Mohamad Amirul at the Penang Hospital.
Mohamad Amirul who was injured during a shooting rampage on Dec 1 was readmitted to the Penang Hospital late Friday night after experiencing severe pain in his hand.
The 28 year-old Mohamad Amirul is a stringer with RTM and has been with the national television more than five years.
On Dec 12 , he was discharged from the Penang Hospital after being admitted for about 12 days.
Because of his injuries, the father of one has been unable to work and get paid accordingly as he only works with RTM on a part-time basis.
Norliza said she will be writing an official letter to RTM and refer Mohamad Amirul's case to the ministry and hopes something can be done to ensure Mohamad Amirul's rights are protected.
A stringer is a media correspondent who is not on the regular staff payroll, and reports on events on a part time basis.
