Flood victims in Terengganu drops slightly to 3,261 in the afternoon

KUALA TERENGGANU: The number of flood victims in Terengganu this afternoon recorded a slight decrease at 3,261 evacuees compared with 4,026 people at 8am.
The Social Welfare Department through its portal on flood information stated that nine relief centres have been closed across the state, bringing the total to 43 relief centres still in operation compared with 52 at 8am today.
"Hulu Terengganu, the worst hit area, has also seen a decrease in the number of evacuees at 1,840 people compared with 2,268 people earlier this morning.
"Eight evacuation centres in the area have been closed and some flood victims were allowed to return home after the flood water receded this morning," reported the portal.
Currently, 521 victims from 138 families were placed at 13 relief centres in Marang, 463 people from 108 families at four relief centres in Kemaman, while in Besut, five relief centres remained open to accommodate 299 victims from 72 families.
In Dungun, the 117 victims from 28 families were placed at three centres while Setiu recorded the least number of evacuees, 21 people from six families who were housed at two evacuation centres. — Bernama
