Perlis RTD issued summonses to 10,341 drivers in 2016

KANGAR: The Perlis Road Transport Department (RTD) issued traffic summonses to 10,341 drivers for various offences in 24 operations conducted last year.
According to State Transportation and Public Utilities Committee chairman, Datuk Sabry Ahmad, of the total, 4,705 cases were road tax and insurance-related offences while 2,895 cases were driving without a valid licence.
"The operations were aimed at reducing accidents and to educate drivers on safe driving and to obey the traffic law," he told reporters after the 'Op Jalan Tahun Baru' in Seriab, here, last night.
Also present was state RTD director Muhammad Afifuddin Mohd Zohdi.
The four-hour operation from 8pm saw 103 drivers being issued summonses while three motorcyclists who tested positive for syabu were subsequently detained by the National Anti-Drugs Agency which participated in the operation.
Sabry said the RTD also issued summonses to 173 Thai-registered vehicles which violated traffic rules and seized 28 cloned vehicles last year. — Bernama
