GEORGE TOWN: Being in the spotlight since being nominated for FIFA's prestigious Puskas Award has not proved a distraction for Penang striker Mohd Faiz Subri.
He said he does not feel the pressure at all and has always maintained his focus in training.
"For me I have no problem (being in the media spotlight) but what is important is for me to divide my time and focus on my training," he told theSun during the Penang Super League team training at the Penang Sports Club here today.
Mohd Faiz said being nominated as one of the top three players has strengthened his resolve to do better in the next season.
"Win or not, I will perform the best for the team and for Penang football fans," he said.
The 29-year-old attacker also thanked the media, especially theSun, for promoting him and asking the public to vote for him.
Mohd Faiz is the first Malaysian to be nominated for the prestigious award.
He is now on the verge to be the first Asian player to win the Puskas award for the best goal of the year 2016 on Jan 9.
The award is named after Ferenc Puskas, a striker who played for Real Madrid in the 1950s and 60s, widely considered one of the most prolific attackers with 512 goals in 528 games.
Past winners of the award were Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, Sweden's Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Colombia's James Rodriguez.
Penang head coach Ashley Westwood said winning the award will be a huge honour for both Mohd Faiz and Malaysia.
"It is something that we respect, let's hope people in Malaysia vote so that he can win," he told theSun in a Whatsapp message.
