PETALING JAYA: The Klang Municipal Council's (MPK) internal investigation team to probe into the New Year's Day fireworks show mishap would come out with its final result in two weeks.
MPK president Datuk Mohamad Yasid Bidin said the team would investigate whether there was any breach in the standard operating procedure or neglect that led to the incident.
He added the council could not release further information pertaining to the event until investigations are concluded to avoid speculation arising from the public.
"Let the investigation take place first. Once the team has come out with a decision, it would then be tabled to our full-board meeting before any official statement is made," he said.
"Furthermore, police have initiated their own investigation. We could jeopardise the probe if we decided to come out with any statement without informing the police first," he told theSun.
The incident in Pandamaran saw several fireworks shooting into the crowd instead of going off in the sky, injuring 14 people including four children.
Police later confirmed that MPK did not apply for a permit to hold the fireworks show, which was part of the Gegar Klang Fiesta organised by the council.
Mohamad Yasid also expressed his disappointment over certain news reports which according to him had attempted to initiate a blame game between the council
and police.
He added both the council and police were trying to find the cause of the incident without seeing the need to point fingers on who was at fault.
