KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan police will streamline its School Liaison Officers (PPS) Unit this year, its chief Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said.
He said the unit would have two categories of officers - uniformed and non-uniformed.
"Those in uniforms will handle cases related to discipline, misconduct or fighting cases.
"The non-uniformed officers, on the other hand, will handle ethnic-related cases such as fights between different ethnicities and to see if there is an element of religious extremism in schools," he told reporters at the state Police Contingent Headquarters here today.
Abdul Rahman said the police would continue to collaborate with the state Education Department and schools often to address any arising issues effectively.
"These police officers will be placed in all schools — both primary and secondary — in the state and they would be present in every school gathering.
"Students and some teachers may not notice the presence of this officers and this will enable us to obtain accurate information at once to resolve issues or problems that arise," he said.
He added that only officers with the rank of Inspector and above would be involved in this programme. — Bernama
