GEORGE TOWN: Tanjung Bungah residents who are affected by sand dredging works along the shoreline in their neighbourhood want the authorities to do more in patching up the mess in the area although remedial works have been carried out.
Muhd Danial Abdullah, 52, said the state Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) had indeed carried out remedial works but stressed that more could be done to ensure the affected area would return to normal.
He said the authorities should use more sand to cover up the area before piling it deeper to make it smooth and better .
"It is not only about beach beautification alone, but safety needs to be prioritised," he told theSun.
Abu Bakar, 32, said the area would face soil erosion if no concrete measures was taken to patch up the area.
"I hope the responsible party will act fast on this," said the fisherman.
Residents in the area were unhappy and had complained over dredging works carried out for the RM10.8 million beach beautification project in Batu Ferringhi.
When contacted, Northeast DID engineer Haslinda Mohd Hamran clarified that dredging works have stopped on Dec 31.

She said works to beautify the beach was still in progress with many technical works to look into, adding that it was the DID's responsibility to monitor the beachfront in the state.
