Ramli Din is new Sabah Police Commissioner

KOTA KINABALU: Former Malacca police chief Datuk Ramli Din has been appointed as the new Sabah Police Commissioner effective today.
He replaced Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun who went on compulsory retirement after serving the police force for more than 41 years.
The handover of duties ceremony between Abdul Rashid and Ramli was held at the Sabah police contingent headquarters and witnessed by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.
In his speech after signing the handover of duties note, Ramli pledged to maintain the excellent leadership legacy of Abdul Rashid, who had held the post for one-and-a-half year.
"I'm aware of the importance of security in Sabah as the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak in his recent visit to Sabah had said that security in Sabah is at its highest level.
"As such, I need the cooperation of all senior police officers and staff in Sabah, as well as district police chiefs, to play their roles," he said.
Meanwhile, Abd Rashid expressed his confidence that Ramli would carry out his duties and responsibilities well as the new Sabah Police Commissioner.
"Sabah has its own challenges, but with his vast experience in the force, I believe Ramli will be able to lead the Sabah police contingent to greater excellence," he said.
In another development, Noor Rashid said the effort to seek the release of five Malaysians abducted in the waters of Dent Haven, Tambisan in Lahad Datu in July last year, was still in progress.
"Our objective is to ensure all victims are freed safely and at the moment, they are still safe," he said.
The five victims were identified as Abd Rahim Summas, 62, of Kampung Tanjung Batu, Tawau; Tayudin Anjut, 45, of Kampung Tanjung Batu Darat, Tawau; Mohd Ridzuan Ismail, 32, of Felda Jengka 7, Bandar Jengka, Pahang; Fandy Bakran, 26, of Kampung Pukat, Tawau and Mohamad Jumadil Rahim, 23, of Batu 2, Jalan Apas, Tawau. — Bernama
