Floods worsen in Terengganu and Kelantan (Updated)

KUALA TERENGGANU: The flood situation in Terengganu worsened as the number of evacuees rose to 4,352 as at 9pm from 3,255 this evening.

According to the Social Welfare Department's Infobanjir application, a total of 1,372 families were now at 77 relief centres in six districts.
Hulu Terengganu recorded the highest number of evacuees, with 1,845 from 576 families at 24 relief centres, followed by Besut with 1,476 from 361 families at 23 relief centres, Kemaman with 299, Setiu (443), Dungun (259) and Marang (30).
Meanwhile in Kelantan, the number of flood evacuees rose to 6,110 as at 9pm tonight, up from 5,245 at 5pm.
Kelantan Civil Defence Force director Zainuddin Hussin, when contacted tonight, said 10 new relief centres were opened this evening namely, five in Kota Baru, two in Pasir Puteh and one each in Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah and Machang, bringing the total number of districts affected by the disaster to eight.
He said 3,063 people from 1,182 families were being placed at 18 relief centres in Pasir Mas and 1,100 people from 278 families were taking shelters at 10 centres in Kuala Krai.
A total of 714 people (187 families) were housed at 16 relief centres in Tanah Merah, 706 people (171 families) at nine centres in Machang, 186 people (49 families) at three centres in Pasir Puteh and 57 people (18 families) at two centres in Jeli, he said.
He said, a total of 238 people (54 families) were staying at five evacuation centres in Kota Bharu and 46 people (11 families) at the only relief centre opened in Bachok.
The water levels of two rivers in Kelantan still exceeded the danger level as at 8pm, according to the state government portal, http://ebanjir.kelantan.gov.my.
The two rivers were Sungai Kelantan at the Guillemard Bridge in Tanah Merah at 17.96m, surpassing its danger level of 16m and Sungai Golok at Rantau Panjang at 10.45m, which is above the danger level of 9m.
The level of Sungai Kelantan at Tangga Krai, Kuala Krai increased slightly to 23.79m compared with 23.76m this evening (danger level is 25m).
The portal reported that the level of Sungai Lebir at Tualang, Gua Musang dropped to 31.99m from 32.44m this evening (danger level is 35m) and Sungai Galas at Dabong, Kuala Krai dropped to 33.73m compared with 34.06m this evening. The danger level of the river is 38m. — Bernama
