Semi-trailer driver and young wife burned to death

    KAJANG: A semi-trailer truck driver and his young wife were burned to death when the vehicle they were in caught fire in a road accident at the KM8.8 Kajang-Seremban highway (Lekas) on Thursday.
    Firemen retrieved the charred remains of truck driver Molok Zainal Abidin, 51, of Dengkil and his 21-year-old wife Rosana Bahtiar of Raub, Pahang at about 4pm.
    The semi-trailer driven by Molok was carrying tonnes of concrete piles which slipped and crashed over his truck after the vehicle crashed by the road shoulder of the highway near the Beranang rest area at about 12pm.
    The semi-trailer caught fire as a result, leaving Molok and his young wife trapped under the rubble.
    Both victims were burned beyond recognition.
    Firemen arrived at the scene within minutes and managed to put out the blaze soon after but faced obstacles in retrieving the remains of the victims.
    A heavy duty crane was summoned to lift tonnes of concrete piles covering the wreckage and only four hours later could firemen extricate the charred remains of the couple who were pinned under the piles.
    Kajang deputy police chief Supt Mohd Sabri Abdullah said the semi-trailer driven by Molok had crashed by the road shoulder, jolting the concrete piles it was laden with forward and penetrating into the truck cabin.
    He said no other vehicles were involved and the cause of the accident is being investigated.
    He said that the employer and families of the victims were informed of the case by police.
