EMBRACING the lifestyle of the brave and the bold, Samsung Malaysia welcomes the new year with two new entries in the Galaxy A Series – the Galaxy A5 (2017), and the Galaxy A7 (2017).
Presented as the first mid-range smartphones to feature dust- and water-resistance, the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 are also fitted with improved cameras.
Rated at IP68, both phones are said to be able to be submerged underwater at 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes. This makes them handy companions during hot or rainy weather, in the city or at the beach.
As for the cameras, the devices are equipped with an enhanced 16MP front and rear camera with f1.9 lens and a Light+Camera feature, that promises better shots and sharper images in low light situations. The rear camera also features Phase Detection Auto Focus for fast shots. As a plus, the camera has zero protrusions.
The brains of the new Galaxy A Series (2017) phones is a 1.9GHz octacore processor, backed by 3GB of memory and 32GB of expandable storage. They also sport fingerprint readers, USB Type-C ports, and fast charging.
The Galaxy A5, however, touts a 5.2in Full High Definition Super Amoled display and a 3,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy A7 boasts a 5.7in screen of the same calibre and 3,600mAh battery. Both are perfect for enjoying media or gaming on the go.
The Galaxy A Series (2017) also comes with Samsung Pay – an easy-to-use and secure mobile payment service compatible with NFC (Near Field Communication) and MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) terminals.
Samsung Pay is currently in an open beta test with selected Maybank Visa cardholders. Future tests will be conducted for CIMB Mastercard, Citibank Mastercard & Visa, and Standard Chartered Mastercard & Visa.
These devices also come preloaded with mySamsung, Samsung’s own mobile app that helps users set up, manage and optimise their Samsung experience and stay updated with the latest Samsung offers and promotions.
“The Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017) are the latest additions to the Malaysian market and they complement the needs of connected millennials who crave spontaneity and seek life’s pleasures in the most fulfilling way,” said Lee Jui Siang, vice president, Samsung Malaysia Electronics’ IT & Mobile Business Unit.
“Millennial consumers are socially active, fun-seeking individuals who live in the moment, and we at Samsung want to help them get ready for anything that comes their way.
“So, we made the 2017 variant to be dust-and water-resistant – youthful, trendy and cool, the right companion for millennials!”
Also at the launch were Elaine Soh, chief marketing executive for Samsung; Hosea Heen, sales head for Samsung IT & Mobile; Justin Jeo, business manager for Samsung IT & Mobile; Danny Tong, head of product marketing for Samsung IT & Mobile; Nini Yusof, general group manager of Media Prima; and Hew Su Yen, head of sales for Astro Malaysia.
Both the Galaxy A5 and the Galaxy A7 are available in black sky and gold sand at launch with additional colours (blue moss and coral peach) available later.
The new Galaxy A Series (2017) will be available at all Samsung brand stores nationwide from Jan 25 at a recommended retail price of RM1,899 for the Galaxy A7and RM1,699 for the Galaxy A5.
