KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Michael Chong is synonymous for his efforts in endlessly assisting the public in solving various problems ranging from loan sharks, finding the missing loved ones to creating awareness on scams.
For this tireless effort in handling public complaints and community services, Chong earned himself a spot in the Malaysian Book of Record (MBR) as the longest serving public services and complaints head.
Chong was presented with the award by MBR founder Tan Sri Danny Ooi during an appreciation dinner on Friday in recognition of his contribution to the society throughout his tenure as the department head.
Chong, in his speech, expressed his gratitude to those who have helped and supported him throughout his time as the MCA Public Services and Complaint Department head including party leaders, police, government agencies and the media.
In an interview earlier with theSun, Chong said that he had no intention to retire, unless he is asked to do so by the party or there is no more support from the authorities or due to health issues.
"However, if they are replacing me, then it is important that my successor bears in mind that whatever is done in this department, it is not for personal glory or as a stepping stone for political ambitions, instead will always be for helping those in need," he stressed.
Apart from earning a spot in the MBR, Chong also received a special plague entitled 'Contribution to Society' from party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, thanking the former for his enormous contribution in community service solving numerous cases regardless its major or minor.
The appreciation dinner was attended by hundreds of guests who included prominent figures from the media industry, business, police, Rela, non-governmental organization as well as politics.
