Jagdeep doubtful over funding for flood projects

GEORGE TOWN: Datuk Keramat assemblyman Jagdeep Singh Deo (pix) wants to know if the federal government will give the money for the Sungai Pinang flood mitigation project.
The Penang exco member said although the funds had been announced, he had his reservations about it being given based on the experience in Kelantan.
He said the federal government had previously announced RM3 billion for flood mitigation projects two years ago in the east coast states but there was little to show these projects had been executed.
"Funds had been announced before like the RM3 billion dam project. There must be execution. Announcements don't solve floods," he said in a press conference here this morning.
"Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in the news that RM800 million in flood mitigation funds had been approved for Kelantan last week. I want to ask if the projects will be executed."
He made the comments after Ahmad Zahid announced RM800 million had been set aside for flood mitigation projects in Kelantan.
On the Sungai Pinang flood mitigation work, Jagdeep said he had proposed the building of a barrage as it would help prevent floods during heavy rain and high tide.
