KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Ministry has allocated some RM12 million annually to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to provide free school bus services for 8,072 children of residents of People’s Housing (PPR) and Public Housing (PA) projects.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said that the allocation is to finance the services provided by some 67 operators who will provide more than 160 vans and school buses in 74 PPR and PA around the city centre.
“The free school bus service is to be enjoyed only by PPR and PA residents as it is aimed to reduce the financial burden of low-income families because the government truly understood the financial constraints they faced particularly with the increasing high cost of living.
“At the same time, we will also look into other ways to lighten their burden,” he told reporters after surveying PPR Kerinchi in Lembah Pantai today.
He added the programme will be closely monitored to ensure the service quality is always top-notch.
This free school bus services, both morning and afternoon sessions, started on Jan 3.
On another issue, Tengku Adnan said the Dataran Merdeka is off-limit for political parties, both ruling and opposition parties, and organisations to hold demonstration.
He said when commenting on a news portal report that PAS Shariah Bill rally director Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi will meet KL mayor Datuk Seri Amin Nordin Abd Aziz to appeal on having the Feb 18 rally at Dataran Merdeka instead of at the proposed Titiwangsa Stadium.
