KUCHING: Region Five Sarawak marine police seized RM55,000 worth of logs of various sizes and timber species at Batang Rajang, Kampung Banyok in Sibu, yesterday.
Its commander, ACP Salehuddin Mat Zaman said the seisure was made at 10.15 am by four personnel during a raid under "Op Pensura" after receiving a public tip-off.
He said the raid was conducted by the riverside in the village where the team found two piles of logs which had been tied up to make rafts.
"On inspection, the logs were found to have no stamp marks of approval from the Sarawak Forestry Department and were thus suspected of being illegally obtained," he said in a statement here, today.
Salehuddin said no suspects were detained during the raid.
"The seized logs have been handed over to the Sibu Region Office of the Sarawak Forestry Department for further action," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 90 of the Sarawak Forestry Ordinance 2015. — Bernama
