Jaim working with Semarang Islamic body to curb sale of door mats with Quranic verses

MALACCA: The Malacca government, via the Malacca Islamic Religious Department (JAIM), is working with the Islamic religious authority in Semarang, Central Jawa, Indonesia to curb the sale of door mats made from pieces of paper with Quranic verses.
JAIM enforcement division principal assistant director Rahimin Bani said the cooperation was achieved following his three-day visit with JAIM's principal assistant director (Research) Muhammad Mawardi Shafai to Indonesia from Dec 11.
He said they went to the office of the mat supplier in question in Kranggan Kecamatan Semarang, Central Jawa, during the visit.
"Prior to this, such mats were seized from a wholesaler in Krubong, Melaka following public complaints. Based on information from the wholesaler, we managed to detect the supplier in Kranggan Kecamatan, Semarang.
"At the office in Kranggan Kecamatan Semarang, we met an elderly man by the name of Saparianto, the father of a man, in his 30s, conducting business selling door mats," he told Bernama.
On Dec 1, Bernama reported that JAIM had seized more than 500 pieces of this mats during an inspection at a supplier's warehouse in Krubong at 2.30 pm after public complaints. The matter also went viral on social media.
"The management of the Semarang Islamic Religious authority via the Masjid Agung of Central Jawa have thanked the Melaka state government for furnishing the information on the matter.
"The issue was also covered by the Indonesian media because it raised the ire of the Muslim population there. The Indonesian government, through their Islamic management bodies, are monitoring and thwarting the sale of such mats there," he added. — Bernama
