GEORGE TOWN: Police raided a mini drug laboratory and uncovered four pipe bombs at a house in Taman Minamah in Nibong Tebal on Thursday.
State police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye said a 34-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were detained during a raid on the semi-detached house at 11am.
He said 18.35 grammes of ketamine in four plastic packets, 12.65 grammes of heroin in a plastic packet, 3.26 grammes of syabu and 24 ecstacy pills worth RM3,200 were seized in the raid.
He said the drugs were meant for distribution in the local market.
Chuah said the discovery of the pipe bombs in the compound of the home caught investigators off guard.
He said it was likely that the explosive materials were to serve as protection for the drug processing activities in the home.
Meanwhile, he also confirmed that four of his personnel had been detained by the Malaysian-Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) on Wednesday.
He said the officers who are lance corporals aged between 25 and 33, were released a day after their arrest.
"We will conduct our own internal probe," he said, adding that police were waiting for a MACC report on the case.
