KUALA LUMPUR: Two men, including a retired policeman, were charged in the Ampang Magistrate's Court here today with collecting donations for the Welfare Association of the Traffic Policemen of the Royal Malaysia Police without a licence and for falsifying of documents.
Fauzi Mat Jusoh, 55, who is self-employed and the retired policeman, Mohd Hashim Md Noor, 66, however, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out separately to them before Magistrate Haslinda A. Raof.
On the first count, Fauzi and Mohd Hashim were charged with collecting donations for the association without a valid licence.
They were alleged to have committed the offence at Contras Capital Sdn Bhd, No 47-3 Jalan Putra Sulaiman 3, Taman Putra Sulaiman 3, Ampang, here on Dec 19 and 23 last year.
The charge, under Section 3(3) of the House to House and Street Collections Act 1947 and punishable under Section Section 3(2) of the same law, provides a fine of up to RM5,000, or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, if found guilty.
Fauzi and Mohd Hashim were also charged with falsifying documents on the association, a letter dated Dec 19 and 23, 2016, with intention to use the letters as genuine, at the same place and date.
The charge, under Section 468 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to seven years and fine, if found guilty.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Zuhaini Mahamad Amin offered bail of RM8,000 on each of the accused, but Fauzi and Mohd Hashim, who were unrepresented, asked for a lower bail as they could not afford the amount.
The court then allowed them bail of RM5,000 in one surety each and fixed Feb 13 for mention. — Bernama
