IPOH: The Ministry of Finance will look into a proposal for 1Malaysia book vouchers to be used to purchase IT products.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Lee Chee Leong said the matter will be raised at the ministry's meeting together with the suggestion that parents be allowed to withdraw from their Employees Provident Fund money to purchase computers for their university going children.
"Normally a proposal or suggestion is made before the Budget is tabled. Nevertheless, we will look into these calls by the public," he said when launching the computer, books and shoe exhibition organised by the Perak Information Technology (IT) Mall here today.
At the event, the Mall management committee chairman Kevin Chang urged the Government to allow the 1Malaysia book voucher for students to be also used to purchase IT products.
He also urged the Government to re look at the EPF computer purchase scheme which had been stopped for 10 years due to abuse by some applicants.
"The scheme need to be revived so that parents can withdraw a portion of the EPF savings to purchase computers for their children entering university.
"For a start only students should be allowed to enjoy this and if it is proven successful then it could
be extended to others," he said.
The exhibition which began on Friday will end on Jan 22.
