PETALING JAYA: It is not everyday that you hear about a politician's 100 year-old tortoise being stolen after it wandered out of its owners compound.
MCA religious bureau chief Ti Lian Ker posted on Facebook that his centenarian tortoise, Ben, was spirited away by two men when the front gate of his Kuantan home was accidentally left open two days ago.
"I have a CCTV recording of the incident, they left in a van. I'm worried they want to cut it (open). Their (tortoise) meat can be eaten," Ti told theSun when contacted today.
He said Ben was a gift from a friend and he has had the amphibian of an undetermined species for a few years and he is considering lodging a police report on the matter.
Ti is also offering a reward for the tortoise's return and for information leading to its return.
Facebook users Adrian Chin and Fauziah Hamdan commented on Ti's post and wished the tortoise will be found safe and sound soon.
Tortoises are trafficked as exotic pets or as luxurious delicacies or medicinal food.
