China firm wins Perak house building contract

IPOH: A construction firm from China had secured a contract to build houses in Perak.
Perak Industry, Investment Corridor Development committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid said this is the first time a company from China has been appointed by a developer here to construct houses.
"We hope the project with a foreign company will raise confidence among foreign countries and other business entities to come to Perak," he said after witnessing the signing of an agreement between Bintang Wirajaya Sdn Bhd and China Huashi Enterprises for the construction of 480 units of affordable apartments in Bandar Meru Raya here today.
The developer was represented by D' Aman Residensi Sdn Bhd project director Stanley Tung Mun Foon while Huashi (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd board chairman Zhang He Chuan signed on behalf of the construction firm.
The second phase of the project will include two blocks and 15 storeys of 480 units on a 9.744ha site and expected to be completed in 20 months.
The first phase of 360 units had been sold at the same site and construction had began.
Mohammad Zahir said Huashi, a Government Linked Company had also shown interest in other projects in the state.
"The state needs such investments as a catalyst for the overall economic growth in the state especially when the global and country's economy is unstable," he added.
Based on statistics Perak recorded, he said, a 5.6% GDP growth in 2015 and the construction sector had been the main contributor which is third after Federal Territory of Labuan and Malacca.
'The state government had committed to build 10,000 affordable houses for the people between 2013 and 2018," he added.
