1.2m people ride MRT during promotional period

SUNGAI BULOH: Phase one of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) services, Sungai Buloh - Semantan line, has recorded a ridership of some 1.2 million since it started operating on Dec 16 last year.
MRT Sungai Buloh - Kajang (SBK) Line Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Muhammad Ison Azis said that the total ridership during the free MRT rides period was quite encouraging given that the line has yet to open fully.
"On average there are some 27,000 to 30,000 commuters commuting to their respective destinations via the MRT service daily.
"Although we are unable to tell what the ridership will be for the upcoming months, the amount we have received so far is quite encouraging, considering that the line is not fully opened and the inter-connectivity with the KL Sentral station is still highly dependent on feeder buses," he said during a press conference at the Sungai Buloh MRT station today.
