KUALA LUMPUR: Police said today that except for one, all those who were involved in an attack against Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad on Parliament grounds on Nov 24 have been identified.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh (pix) said the identified suspects included a son of Pasir Salak MP and agriculture deputy minister Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.
He said the suspects were picked out in two identification parades held on Dec 13 last year and Jan 10 at the Sentul district police headquarters.
Amar Singh said Khalid had attended the second identification parade held on Jan 10 where he picked out two suspects from the 11 people lined up in the session.
"All those held for the case including the son of a deputy minister have taken part in the identification sessions. There is only one suspect whom we are yet to identify. The identification parade was carried in order and in accordance to standard operating procedures. The lawyers of both parties were also present during the sessions." he said.
Amar Singh was responding to a statement made by Khalid on Monday that none of the main suspects involved in the attack against him were present at the identification parade.
He also said that police should have used footage from close-circuit security cameras in Parliament to trace the attackers.
Amar Singh denied there was any truth to Khalid's claims which he made to the media and urged the public to not be taken in by it or speculate on the case until the probe is completed. The case is classified as rioting.
The attack by Tajuddin's son and his supporters was a result of a heated argument the deputy minister and Khalid were embroiled in following an alleged rude remark made by the former days earlier.
