Youths face jail, fine for riding motorcycles dangerously

BUTTERWORTH: Four youths today pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court here after being charged with riding motorcycles in a reckless and dangerous manner.

Muhammad Faiz Ramli, 24, was charged with committing the offence at the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) at about 2.50am on Jan 14.

He was accused of riding his motorcycle while lying face down whereby the offence comes under the Road Transport Act 1987.

The other three, Muhammad Nabil Darwis, 18, Mohd Shofian Manaf, 20, and a 17-year-old were also accused of committing the offence at the same place, date and time.

Magistrate Muhammad Firdaus Abdul Wahab sentenced Muhammad Faiz to four days in jail, a RM5,500 fine in lieu of six months in prison, and ordered his driving license to be suspended for two years.

The Magistrate also fixed bail at RM3,000 for Muhammad Nabil pending the Welfare Department report.

He then fixed bail at RM2,000 for MohdShofian and RM1,000 for the form-five student pending the Welfare Department report.

Muhammad Firdaus then fixed Feb 22 and March 1 for mention while DPP Shafina Ridzuan prosecuted the case.
