KUALA LUMPUR: Conglomerates in South East Asia, including Malaysia will have to get slimmer, fitter and faster, in order for them to survive longer and prosper, according to management consulting firm, Bain & Company.
Its Southeast Asia partner, Till Vestring said, while conglomerates are generally outperforming single focused companies, they are weathering through challenging business climate, marked by global slowdown in GDP growth, slumping commodity prices, heightened concern over China's economic restructuring and regional and global political situations.
These headwinds, according to Vestring could threaten conglomerates' ability to outperform if they are unable to maintain a competitive edge amidst economic uncertainty.
Amongst the recommendations given for conglomerates to get slimmer by divesting, fitter by tackling cost and improve productivity and faster in terms of speed and agility.
