Court acquits teacher of leaking UPSR papers

KUALA KANGSAR: A 52-year-old senior administrative assistant of SJK (T) Keruh, Pengkalan Hulu who was charged for having UPSR examination papers in his smartphone was acquitted and discharged by the Sessions Court here today.
K. Anparasu,52, from Taman Tembusu, Pengkalan Hulu, who breathed a sigh of relief is eager to resume work.
Since the trial which began in 2014, the accused with 30 years of teaching experience had been suspended and received only half month salary.
Judge Niran Tan Kran ruled that the prosecution failed to establish a prime facie case against Anparasu who faced three charges, namely
* alleged to have in possession several 2014 UPSR Mathematic 035/1 question papers in his Samsung Trend smartphone at the school on Sep 9, 2014 at 9.43am.
* alleged to have in possession several 2014 Mathematics 035/2 question papers in his Samsung Trend smartphone at the school on Sep 9, 2014 at 8.29am.
* alleged to have in possession of several 2014 Science 018 question papers in his Samsung Trend smartphone at the school on September 10, 2014 at 9.15am.
The accused was represented by T.Ellanggova while Deputy Public Prosecutor Nazaratul Natrah Mohd Yusof prosecuted.
Anparasu was one of the two Tamil primary school teachers who claimed trial to four counts of having in possession UPSR examination questions in their smartphones on Nov 27, 2014.
He and P. Uma Mageswari, 27, from the same school pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Both were charged under section 8 (1) (c) (iii) of the Official Secrets Act 1972, which carries a jail term of between one to seven years.
