GEORGE TOWN: Statements from five people in a case involving a "Datuk Seri" businessman who allegedly assaulted a security guard have been recorded.

Penang police chief Datuk Chuah Gee Lye said one of the five was the businessman himself, but did not elaborate further.

He said investigators consider the case solved and will be submitting the investigation papers (IP) to the public prosecutor for further action this week.

"The IP will be sent soon," he said in a press conference today.

The businessman is a member of the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) general working committee.

Attempts by theSun to contact the businessman for comment were not sucessful at time of writing.

The businessman was filmed trying to remove a clamp from his car with a metal cutting tool at a condominium in Jelutong at about 4pm on Saturday.

He allegedly assaulted a 42-year-old security guard at the condominium after noticing his actions were being filmed while the video has since gone viral.

He was detained on Monday morning after turning himself in and has since been released on police bail.

On the discovery of pipe bombs during a drug raid last Thursday at Nibong Tebal, Chuah said forensic tests were being conducted to search for clues.

"Investigations are in progress," he said of the raid where a 34-year-old man and 42-year-old woman were detained.

Chuah earlier launched the "Cyber Safe, Be Smart" campaign to educate youths on the dangers posed by sexual predators online.

He said police have recorded five cases of rape stemming from meeting strangers online, out of 183 nationwide, last year and urged caution when using social media.
