Man arrested for offensive Facebook post against Sultan Johor

JOHOR BARU: A man was arrested in Sentul for posting an "offensive statement" against the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, via his Facebook, today.
Johor police chief Datuk Seri Comm Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the 43-year old man was arrested at 9.45pm at his house after the police received a report at 4.57pm on Jan 16.
Police also seized his handphone and a simcard.
"I have a team monitoring this kind of cases, and I have reminded social media users repeatedly not to post offensive statements on the royals. But people still commit the same offence," he said after launching the Public Sector Conducive Ecosystem (Eksa) at the Johor Police Contingent headquarters here today.
He said although many were charged in court, still there are others who commit the offence.
The case is investigated under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a fine up to RM50,000 or one year's jail, or both, upon conviction and is also liable to a further fine of RM1,000 for everyday during which the offence is continued after conviction.
Earlier, Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said, the implementation of Eksa is to enhance the existing public sector 5S practice with emphasis on creating a conducive working environment, creativity, innovative and creation of a dynamic organisational culture.
He said, practice on 3R that is reduce, reuse and recycle are important strategies in the 'Go Green' initiative in Eksa.
