Penang gov't not informed of port expansion plan: Guan Eng

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government has not been informed of any expansion plans the Penang Port Commission (PPC) has for the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said his administration was not in the know of such plans as they were not informed.
He said the state will nonetheless support any expansion plans to upgrade the Pier as long as the state was a partner in such a project.
"This is to ensure the state has a stake in the project," he said in a press conference today but declined to elaborate when asked about discussions between PPC and the state to resolve the matter.
He was responding to PPC chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng who on Tuesday blamed land issues between PPC and the state government for holding up a RM200 million upgrade.
The regulatory body chief stated certain portions of the land was owned by the state and so PPC could not do anything if the state did not give the green light.
On the issue of BR1M, Lim, who is the DAP secretary general, said the state government was consistent in its stand of being able to continue with direct cash payments without the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
He said his administration is proof as the state did not collect GST but has managed to grow its reserves from RM800 million to RM1.6 billion.
Lim also hit back at Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki for praising a 13-year-old boy who lodged a police report against Lim over a blog posting which police are investigating for sedition.
He said both of them should understand the Federal Constitution first before criticising him.
