Liow: MH370 search not over, merely postponed

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has not stopped but merely suspended the search for MH370, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said at present a team of experts are going through recovered debris confirmed to be from MH370 to find out where the parts may have come from.
"The experts are also studying the drift pattern and lot of analysis needs to be carried out before we have any information," he said.
As many as 30 pieces of debris suspected to be from MH370 have been found on beaches in Mozambique, Tanzania and South Africa.
Liow said Malaysia was determined to locate the missing Boeing 777 but a precise location is needed before a new search starts.
"We feel sad for the families of the missing passengers and we are working very hard to find out what happened to MH370," he told reporters after officiating the French-Malaysian Seminar on High Speed Rail here today.
He reiterated that a new search will only start if there is credible evidence.
The Malaysian Airlines plane en-route to Bejing from Kuala Lumpur with 239 passengers and crew on board went missing on March 8, 2014.
Liow also said that Malaysia was set to impose the Reciprocal Road Charge (RRC) on foreign-registered vehicles at all entry points begining with the Thai border by June.

"I welcome Singapore's decision (in not implementing the RRC, if Malaysia introduces the charge at the Thai border). As I said before, we are not discriminating against Singapore cars.

Earlier this month, Singapore announced that the RRC would be implemented starting Feb 15, to mirror Malaysia's RRC which started on Nov 1, 2016.
On the Himpunan RUU355 rally organised by PAS to garner support for amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 and the counter-rally by a group calling itself Bebas on Feb 18, Liow said MCA was not against any peaceful rally.
He pointed out that MCA has always supported any peaceful rally as long as it followed the law and the Peaceful Assembly Act.
