KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa today made a surprise visit to three schools here to look at matters concerning welfare and infrastructure at the school.
He had visited Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Jalan Fletcher, SMK Puteri Titiwangsa and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chong Hwa, Jalan Pahang to get feedback from the teachers and students at the school.
Summarising his visit, Dr Ali said he was satisfied with the condition of the schools which were properly managed as well as the dedication shown by the teachers.
"They are quite well maintained, it is just that there are long-term requirements such as at the SJKT Fletcher which needed a school hall although the land is rather limited.
"One of the original buildings of the schools was made from wood and had termite problems. Improvements will be carried out immediately to overcome the problem," he told Bernama after visiting SJKC Chong Hwa, here today.
Also present was the Director-General of the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department (JPM), Datuk Seri Ahmad Zaki Ansore Mohd Yusof.
On shortage of special education teachers at the school, he said would also be referred to the Education Ministry.
Ali said he would take immediate measures on the damaged infrastructure at the SJKC Chong Hwa due to development work on the condominium near the area and the problem of access to the school area located near an embassy which was recently opened earlier this year.
He was also satisfied with the programme carried out at the three schools including the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programme at SMK Puteri Titiwangsa, managed by the British Council and Malaysia Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT).
"The representative from the British Council from Britain was impressed with the standard our our students. In terms of innovations and creativity, we are at par with international level," he added. — Bernama
