NIBONG TEBAL: A gutsy 47-year-old woman put up a fight with a man who snatched her bag, resulting in his capture early Saturday morning.

The victim had pulled up to her daughter's nursery in Taman Seri Emas when a man on a motorcycle came from the opposite direction and grabbed her bag during the 8am incident.

She fell to the ground but managed to grab onto the straps of her handbag while screaming for help.

South Seberang Prai district police chief Supt Shafie Samad said residents nearby who heard the commotion rushed outside and called the police before managing to detain the suspect.

He said footage of a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera showed the woman being followed before her bag was snatched.

"The victim sustained injuries to her head and has been sent to the Parit Buntar Hopsital for treatment," he said in a statement.

The suspect tested positive for drug abuse in a urine test and investigations are being carried out for armed robbery under the Penal Code.
