LANGKAWI: Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia (Angkasa) will submit a proposal to the Education Ministry to have full-time teachers for school cooperatives, said its president Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah.
He said this was in line with Angkasa's efforts to further strengthen school cooperatives which have income generating potential.
"Nowadays school cooperatives are managed by teachers who are appointed as the cooperative's secretary or treasurer. Their main task is to teach while the cooperative (management) is just a sideline," he said after attending a special programme with School Cooperative Business Development board members here today.
He said income generated by school cooperatives was seen to be improving and as such, its management should not be taken lightly.
Abdul Fattah said the turnover of school cooperatives last year was between RM340 million and RM350 million, as compared to RM338.9 million in 2015 and RM331 million in 2014. — Bernama
