KUALA LUMPUR: The Fire and Rescue Department yesterday were called to rescue a woman who was found tied with metal chains around her neck and body at Serdang Raya, Seri Kembangan.
According to a spokesman, the department was alerted to the incident yesterday at about 9am following distress calls from passers-by.
He said the 29-year-old was said to have been chained up by a family member since Saturday night.
"The victim's family member said he decided to chain the victim as she is an alcoholic and he intended to stop her from leaving home.
"However, the victim was not in the house after he woke up yesterday morning," he said.
He said a team was dispatched to the scene at 9.34am when they were called in by the police.
"A passer-by who found the victim had called the police and we took about five minutes to cut the chain. "We then handed the victim over to Seri Kembangan police," he added.
It was unclear at press time how the victim had managed to escape from home.
Serdang district police chief ACP Megat Mohd Aminuddin Megat Alias confirmed the incident but said police have yet to receive report on any missing person.
