Man arrested for offensive Facebook statement against TMJ

JOHOR BARU: A man suspected of posting an "offensive statement" on Facebook recently against the Tunku Mahkota Johor (TMJ), Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, was arrested in Sepang, Selangor, about 3.30pm on Jan 22.
Johor Police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the 25-year-old man is being detained at the KLIA police station to facilitate investigations on a police report lodged on Jan 19.
Police also seized his handphone and a simcard.
The case is being investigated under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 or one year's jail, or both, upon conviction.
He is also liable to a further fine of RM1,000 for every day during which the offence continues after conviction.
