IPOH: Police busted a syndicate with the arrest  of five members including an individual with the title "Datuk" and a couple who falsified MyKad, passport, driving licences, vehicle registration documents and road taxes at different locations in the state on Friday and Sunday.
These documents were sold to the public for a high fee.
The 43-year-old man with the Datuk title was picked up on Friday.
Police also seized three cloned cars, a Mercedes Benz, Toyota Alphard and a BMW with  fake road tax, fake registration numbers and a forged international passport from him.
Perak CID chief Datuk Gan Tian Kee said: "The forged driving licence and passport belonged to one Dato Seri Panglima Raja Irwan Mohd Nor.
"We also found a member card for a Skuad Elite Persatuan Sukarelawan Malaysia (Elite Malaysian Volunteer Association) and a similar card of Persatuan Bekas Anggota Perisikan Malaysia (Former Malaysian Intelligence Members Association) with the same name printed on it," he told reporters here today.
Gan said: "We have identified several syndicate members who called themselves Geng Tuah."
He said the group obtained information on individuals from inside sources and subsequently the details were entered into the forged documents.
Police made the breakthrough after a month-long surveillance when a team raided a house in Taman
Maju Rapat here at 4.30pm  on Friday.
The syndicate had been operating for several years. The Datuk, the purported mastermind behind the scam, was picked up during the raid.
He had two previous records for cheating. The suspect has been remanded until tomorrow.
Police seized several fake road tax discs, MyKad driving licences, computer, laptop and a pendrive which contained software to forge the documents.
A government medical certificate book and three Companies Commission of Malaysia documents belonging to an agency were also recovered.
Gan said follow-up operations by CID and commercial crime personnel lead to the arrest of the 37-year-old husband who worked as a clerk in a post office and his wife also aged 37, who is a teacher from Pokok Assam, Taiping on Sunday.
The raiding party seized 165 unprinted driving  licences and 21 unprinted road tax discs.
Police also picked up a 49-year-old man in Padang Rengas, Kuala Kangsar on the same day.
They also recovered 43 unprinted road tax discs and two handphones.
All of them had been remanded to facilitate investigations.
Gan said all the cases are investigated under  Section 420, which upon conviction carries a jail term of between one year and 10 years, whipping and liable to be fined.
"We are probing from all angles," he added.
