KUALA LUMPUR: Former civil servant group (G25) spokeperson, Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin and Azmi Arshad, who had sued each other for defamation had agreed to withdraw their suits.
Azmi's lawyer Azad Bashir informed the media that both the defamation suits were struck out.
"Both parties have agreed to withdraw the suits with no liberty to file afresh," said Azad.
He said a private discussion was held before the director of the Mediation Centre and pursuant to the discussion, the matter was withdrawn.
He thanked the director, Datuk Che Wan Zaidi Che Wan Ibrahim for being patient and for the role played in the matter.
Azad and Noor Farida's lawyer, D.Maya Gayathri went before Judicial Commissioner Roslan Abu Bakar. Azad said the court had allowed both matters to be withdrawn.
"Accordingly, both suits have been struck off," he said.
In the statement of claim filed on March 7, 2016, Noor Farida had claimed that Azmi had wrote and caused to be published an article titled "Low Yat is only a gentle reminder" at Islam and Melayu portal on July 13, 2015.
The article was allegedly posted in Azmi Arshad facebook account on July 13, 2015 at 2.10am.
Azmi, 53, who is a "principal officer" in a public listed company, claimed Noor Farida had caused to be published a posting in a facebook belonging to another person. The two had sought for damages, publication of an apology and cost.
