KUALA LUMPUR: Barely three months after Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel stumbled upon two smoke bombs in the city, Cheras police were alerted to the discovery of a fake bomb at Jalan Yaakob Latif here today.
Cheras District Police Chief ACP Chong Kok Sin said police were alerted through a distress call at about 12.30pm today on a bomb found at the side of the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital here.
"The bomb was placed at the Hospital's fence near a telecommunication substation.
"A forensic unit was dispatched to the scene and the personnel found a fake bomb attached to sponges, wire and its components," Chong said in a statement today.
He reiterated there were no explosives found at the scene and police are in the midst of investigating the case.
Last October, an FRU team during their patrol rounds, stumbled upon two smoke bombs at the Air Panas People's Housing Project (PPR) in Setapak.
Police have ruled out the possibility of terror links in the case.
