Floods displace hundreds in several states

JOHOR BARU: The continuous rainfall since Monday has led to flooding in Kota Tinggi and several other districts in the state today.
Johor Health and Environment committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said some 838 residents from Kota Kecil namely from the outskirts of Kota Tinggi township, Taman Aman and Taman Mawai have been evacuated to three relief centres about 5am.
Meanwhile, several other districts have also opened up 12 relief centres to accommodate 459 residents from Segamat, Tangkak, Johor Baru, and Kluang as at 4am.
In KOTA BARU, Bernama reported that the number of flood victims in Kelantan showed a slight increase as at 8am compared to 3,325 on Tuesday night.
They are sheltered at 24 evacuation centres in Kota Baru, Pasir Puteh, Pasir Mas and Kuala Krai.
The Social Welfare Department through its application, Infobanjir, said 2,573 people from 712 families are staying at 10 centres in Pasir Puteh and 570 (202 families), in nine centres in Pasir Mas.
Another 157 people (54 families) are staying at three centres in Kota Bharu while 44 (10 families), at two centres in Kuala Krai.
According to state government portal, ebanjir.kelantan.gov.my, Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang is at 9.64 metres compared to 9.83 metres on Tuesday night, exceeding the 9.00 metre danger level.
In IPOH, flood due to incessant rain since Monday evening in Perak has temporarily displaced 334 residents comprising 109 families, who have moved to seven evacuation centres.
The State Disaster Management Secretariat here in a statement today said Manjung District recorded the highest number of flood victims with 197, of which 72 are staying at Sekolah Agama Rakyat Kampung Padang Serai.
Another 125 at sheltered at Dewan Orang Ramai Inderawati, Beruas.
In SHAH ALAM, heavy rain since Tuesday evening has displaced 152 residents from 45 families, who are now staying at two evacuation centres in Sabak Bernam near here.
A Sabak Bernam District Disaster Operations Room spokesman said 78 of the flood victims were from Pekan Sungai Besar and 74, from Pekan Parit Baru.
The families are sheltered at Dewan Sri Bernam and Dewan Parit Baru.
In KOTA KINABALU, the number of flood victims in Paitan and Pitas in Sabah remains at 824 from 251 families as of this morning.
According to National Disaster Committee Secretariat, Sabah head Col Mulliadi Al-Hamdi Ladin, in Paitan, 30 people from nine families are staying at the evacuation centre at Dewan Kampung Kubambangan.
Forty-five people from 10 families are staying at Dewan Kampung Binsulung in the same sub-district.
Meanwhile, in MIRI, eight primary schools have remained closed since Tuesday due to flood, affecting 460 pupils.
State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat chief, Major Ismail Mahedin from the Civil Defence Force said the eight comprised four in Bintulu - SK Kuala Sigu, SK Genaan, SK Bukit Mawang and SK Kuala Binyo.
"The four other schools are in Miri - SK Rumah Ranggong, SK Long Sobeng, SK Kuala Bok and SK Long Loyang," he said.
He said five other primary schools, of which two are in Bintulu and three, in Miri, involving 599 pupils were also flooded but stayed open.
The schools are SK Nanga Penyarai and SK Bukit Balai in Bintulu, and SK Sungai Seputi, SK Sungai Kelabit and SK Kpg Bulau in Miri.
