Public urges JKR to repair damaged overhead bridge

GEORGE TOWN: Parents of a primary school in Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here are worried over the safety of their children after a pedestrian overhead bridge here developed a crack after being hit by a tall vehicle.

Mohd Ali Makhtun, 45, who has two children in standard two and six, said he felt uneasy seeing the damage.

He said he did not want anything untoward to happen as many pupils sought shelter from the sun under the bridge before and after school hours.

"I hope the authorities can take action before anything happens," he said when met at the scene.

Mirroring his concerns was Mohd Nasir Hassan, 35, who called upon the authorities to conduct remedial works soon.

The businessman told theSun repair works should not be delayed and quick action should be taken.

"The culprit should also be hauled up," he told theSun and urged for a prohibition of heavy vehicles entering the road to be imposed.

Seri Delima assemblyman RSN Rayer raised the matter in a post on Facebook and urged passers-by to be careful.

Rayer said he said informed the State Public Works Department (JKR) and that officers have since visited the site.

"The bridge is still safe to be used," he said, adding repair works will be carried out soon.

JKR director Ahmad Redza Goulam could not be reached for comment at time of writing.
