AirAsia X gets FAA clearance for US flights

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia X, which announced plans to fly to the US as early as February 2015, yesterday said it has obtained clearance from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) to operate services to any destination within the US.
In a statement, AirAsia X Group CEO Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said the medium-haul, low-cost airline is considering flights to several US states, including Hawaii, as part of its route expansion plans.
He called it a major milestone for AirAsia X, which has until now concentrated on Asia, Australasia and the Middle East.
Calling it its first foray beyond Asia Pacific, Kamarudin added that it is also looking to resume its London route, a plan that has been in the works since the end of 2014. The airline suspended flights to London and Paris in 2012, citing high costs.
Post-suspension, the airline has limited its flights to Asia, Australasia and the Middle East.
