KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department's (MetMalaysia) "myCuaca" mobile application offers the latest weather information to help the public plan their journey, especially during this upcoming Chinese New Year.
MetMalaysia director-general Datuk Che Gayah Ismail said the application was very useful especially during this monsoon season which had seen several states struck by floods.
"The application provides the latest weather information, as well as notifications on earthquake, floods and heavy rain.
"With this mobile application which could be accessed from anywhere and at anytime, the public can avoid making trips to any of the disaster-hit areas," she told Bernama here today.
The application can be downloaded for free through PlayStore for Android users and AppStore for Apple product users.
Che Gayah said apart from the mobile app, the latest weather information would also be available at the MetMalaysia's website www.met.gov.my, Facebook or Twitter page.
On the weather forecast for Chinese New Year which falls on Saturday and Sunday, she said rains were expected in several states on both days.
"Rains and thunderstorm are expected to occur over the states in the west coast of the peninsula, in rural areas, Tawau and east coast of Sabah, as well as in Bintulu, Miri, Limbang and Kapit in Sarawak in the afternoon.
"Rains are also expected to occur over several areas in Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and all areas in Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan during the night," she said. — Bernama
