Malaysia, New Zealand discuss immigration matters

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and New Zealand today held talks on cooperation on immigration matters and on the issue of migration.
These were the matters on the table in the meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Home Minister, when he received a courtesy call from New Zealand's Minister of Immigration Michael Woodhouse at his office at the Perdana Putra Building here.
"The migration issue encompasses the aspect of human movement illegally including people smuggling," said a statement issued by the Deputy Prime Minister's Office in conjunction with the visit.
Woodhouse is on a two-day working visit to Malaysia from today.
Malaysia and New Zealand established diplomatic relations on Sept 25, 1957 and this year marks the 60th anniversary of the bilateral ties.
The bilateral relations involves various fields among others trade, investment, defence, education and the environment.
According to the statement, in terms of regional security and transborder crimes, Malaysia and New Zealand have cooperated on these through the platform of the Asean Ministerial Meetings and Asean Senior Officials Meetings. New Zealand is a dialogue partner of Asean. — Bernama
