JOHOR BARU: Those in traditional economic activities will have to venture into new ways of doing their businesses, especially with the emergence of new technologies, said Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin (pix).
He said while some traditional businesses are already affected by new technologies, others too will phase out or be killed by new technologies sooner or latter.
"Be prepared for changes," he said in his new year address at state government servant assembly at the Presada international convention centre here today.
Khaled said he will chair the Digital Government steering committee in order to push the digital government services to a higher level.
He added a new committee on the Economics of the Future headed by state secretary Azmi Rohani will be set up with members comprising from the state exco, economists and industry leaders.
He urged Johoreans to work as a team to face the uncertainty in the global arena.
"With the popularity of UBER and other E-services, we even foresee the impact on traditional taxi services," he added.
The digitalisation, Khaled said, will not result in a reduction of state civil servants but rather an improvement of their productivity and performance.
He also disclosed that the performance index, the Johor unique appraisal system since in 2014, will be extended to all state government agencies in stages.
"The appraisal system applied only to state Excos and Government Linked Companies. We noticed a marked improvement in the public delivery system," he said, adding that it will now be involve some 130,000 state government servants.
