Flood situation in Johor improves

JOHOR BARU: The flood situation in Johor has improved over the weekend with only 1,797 people still seeking temporary shelter at 27 evacuation centres today, especially those in Segamat.
Five districts where flash floods have receded are in Kota Tinggi, Batu Pahat, Johor Baru, Pontian, Mersing.
State disaster Management chairman, Datuk Ayub Rahmat when contacted by theSun said they were well prepared for the floods and giving those affected the moral support were the Sultan of Johor and his consort, Permaisuri Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah who visited several relief centres.
He said the "Johor Muafakat" spirit has even drawn some non-government organisations to render help to victims in flood affected areas.
Besides the 1,797 evacuees, the Muar district has also 410 victims from 120 families in four relief centres, and Tangkak district with 269 victims from 83 families in four relief centers.
In Segamat district, two men died due to flood waters – Mohd Faiz Syafiq Hassan, 21, from Kp Tengah, and a 58-year-old man from Tarmin katimah.
In Shah Alam, Bernama reported that the situation in flood-hit Sabak Bernam in Selangor continued to improve, with only 77 people remaining at relief centres as at noon today.
A spokesman of the Sabak Bernam District Disaster Operations Room said 13 evacuees were at the Sri Bernam community hall in Sungai Besar, 35 at the Parit Baru community hall in Sungai Air Tawar and 29 at the Seri Nakhoda community hall in Bagan Nakhoda Omar.
In Ipoh, Three flood evacuees returned home from a relief centre in the Hilir Perak district, thus reducing to 433 the number of evacuees in Perak as at noon today.
The trio had been at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Jong Batu 8.
The centre now has 97 evacuees. Another 97 are at SK Sungai Kerawai, making the number of evacuees in Hilir Perak 194 in all, according to a portal of the Social Welfare Department.
Manjung still has 218 evacuees, with 208 staying at Sekolah Rendah Agama Rakyat, Padang Serai, and 10 at the Kampung Tanjung Ara community hall.
The Larut, Matang and Selama district has 21 evacuees, and all of them are staying at the Padang Serai Dalam surau.
