PJ residents worried about sinkholes

PETALING JAYA: Residents staying in and around Jalan Bukit Gasing are worried that a second sinkhole, which appeared today morning, will pose a danger to them.
James Nayagam said the first sinkhole which appeared last week was repaired and the second one that appeared today created a traffic jam with one lane heading into city (Petaling Jaya) closed.
The resident's community leader has contacted the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), but no one has responded.
"I am afraid that the second sink hole might collapse due to the erosion underneath it," he said when contacted.
Meanwhile, Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran said once the complaint was lodged, MBPJ will fix it in one working day.
"I will see to it that it is done by the end of the day," he said in response to the residents' distress call.
MBPJ councillor Derek Fernandez noted that although he did not receive any information on the situation, but will see it is done.
He also urged residents to notify MBPJ through its website which has an MBPJ Online Complaint System that registers the details, including a number, of the complaint lodge.
"We need MBPJ to be accountable, that is why we have the system in place. If action has not been taken, then it can be traced using the number given and alert the authorities," he added.
