KUALA LUMPUR: Two security guards, one who worked for an airport security company, were among three suspected Daesh militants held by police last week.
Police also seized an air gun and a shotgun from the security guards who were arrested on Friday in Kuantan by the federal Special Branch's counter-terrorism unit.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today that the first arrest was made on a 37-year-old Malaysia Airports Berhad (MAB) security guard who is an Indonesian with Malaysian permanent residence status.
He said the suspected militant had gone to Turkey in 2013 and made contact with Malaysian Daesh fighters in Syria.
Khalid said the man had planned to leave for Syria with his wife.
Police also seized an Airsoft air gun and three books on deviant extremist Islamic teachings.
Khalid said on the same day, another security guard of a private company aged 38 was held on suspicion of having links to the Islamic State (IS).
He said a Trusty PM4 shotgun was recovered from the man who was also planning to leave for Syria to fight alongside other Malaysian militants.
Khalid said the third suspect who is unemployed was arrested here on Sunday had confessed to the raiding party that he was an IS member and had in the past made a threat to bomb the Negri Sembilan Mufti Department apparently for not adhering to Islamic laws.
He said two days before his arrest, the suspect had issued a warning of blowing up several places here in a posting in Facebook.
Khalid said all three men who were held under anti-terrorism laws are being investigated for their involvement in militancy.
