GEORGE TOWN: While others half her age stay away from chocolates and sweets, centenarian Lo Cheng Yeok@Lo Cheng York swears by them.
Lo, who is 101 years old, also likes to be surrounded by all her nephews and nieces during special occasions like Chinese New Year as it will remind her of the good old days.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng made the occasion even more memorable when he visited the family in Batu Lanchang today.
Lim said taking care of older family members is something that must be encouraged.
He said the younger generation must show gratitude to those who had helped them to achieve success, especially senior citizens.
"I want to congratulate the family because they still look after their beloved centenarian.
"Even though she is 101 years old, she is still able to continue her twilight years in the loving embrace of her family," Lim said.
Lo's niece, Poh Hin, 73, said her aunt has been disabled since she was seven years old.
"She had an eye problem and after an eye operation she became blind," she said.
Poh Hin said she has been taking care of her aunt after her own parents died a few years ago.
"I assumed the responsibility of taking care of my aunt, but sometimes my other siblings will come to my house to look after her too," she said, adding that her aunt hearing has also deteriorated.
Cheng Yeok celebrated her 101st birthday recently at her family home.
She was born in Penang on Sept 29, 1916.
