PETALING JAYA: Suspended Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa (pix) is set to present himself to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) tomorrow upon his return from New Zealand tonight.
Annuar said he would cooperate with the anti graft body and have himself investigated following accusations of abuse of power linked to sponsorship of the Kelantan football club.
"God willing, the first thing I would do upon returning home is to head to MACC early in the morning to be investigated.
"A 10-hour flight is definitely tiring, but I am happy to return home to meet my family and media friends, with whom contact has a been a bit restricted due to the long distance.
"Whatever it is, I hope to be at MACC's office before it even opens, so that there will be plenty of time for them to carry out their duty," he said in a Facebook post last night.
He is currently in New Zealand on official business on behalf of Mara
Annuar, who was also suspended as Pelaburan Mara Bhd (PMB) chairman, also thanked Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor for allowing him to remain as Umno information chief.
"I have my own view on the matter, and God willing, I will meet the Umno president soon after. For now, MACC first," he said.
Tengku Adnan had previously said Annuar's position in the party was up to Najib to decide, while Najib had said that Annuar would remain as Umno information chief for the time being, pending investigation.
Annuar was suspended from his positions with immediate effect on Jan 31 following an emergency meeting held at Mara headquarters, without his presence.
The meeting was chaired by Mara committee member Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob, who also assumed all the positions held by Annuar.
Annuar's suspension came just weeks after Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim called on a the former to explain the sponsorship of the Kelantan football team by Pelaburan Mara and University of Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) respectively.
Tunku Ismail posted photographs of documents which purportedly showed a RM200,000 sponsorship by Pelaburan MARA and RM500,000 sponsorship by its education arm UniKL respectively.
